Participamos de un grupo en el que no se discrimina a ninguno de sus miembros por razones de sexo, raza o nivel cultural, y el hecho de que el número de mujeres practicantes haya aumentado en los últimos años no es por casualidad; se trata del fruto de un esfuerzo continuado que nos facilita la oportunidad de practicar en un grupo más heterogéneo y rico, en el que hombres y mujeres compartimos entusiasmo, esfuerzo e intimidad.
Es un error pensar que el aikido es exclusivo-o más apropiado- para los hombres, como también lo es creer que sublima la estética y, por tanto, favorece a las mujeres.
De ningún modo la práctica debe convertirse en una mera coreografía más o menos plástica. El peso del sistema esta en el Ikkyo, Nikyo, Sankyo, etc., técnicas contundentes que terminan con una inmovilización. Así que, aunque los ejercicios acrobáticos sean vistosos y agraciados, debemos dosificarlos.
El aikido es un sistema basado en la habilidad, en el que la capacidad mayor o menor para producir efecto –la fuerza- no depende de la corpulencia física, sino del refinamiento de la condición humana.
La mujer, como cualquier otro practicante, tiene que investigar, explorar la situación y analizar sus posibilidades de respuesta. De entrada, practicar con un compañero hombre –casi con seguridad de mayor volumen y peso- puede parecer una desventaja; pero experimentar los agarres, ataques e inmovilizaciones, sin tener opción a recurrir a la fuerza, obliga a la mujer a un trabajo fino con el que obtener eficacia y potencia.
También el hombre debe esforzarse por ajustar la técnica y ser mas preciso, controlando no imprimir una potencia innecesaria.
De manera que practicar juntos vuelve mejor el aikido de todos.

In no way must practice become another choreography or less pliant. The weight of the system relies on Ikkyo, Nikyo, Sankyo, etc., profound techniques which end up with an immobilisation. Therefore, even though the acrobatic exercises are seen and appreciated, the must be paced.
Aikido is a system based on ability, where the greater capacity, not less to produce an effect –force- does not depend on physical corpulence, but from the refining of the human condition.
Women, as any other participants, have to investigate, explore the situation and analyse their possibilities of response. To begin with, to practice with a male partner –most certainly of greater volume and weight- might be seen as a disadvantage; but to experience the grabs, attacks, and immobilisations, with no possible use of force, obligates women to a fine work which results in efficiency and power.
Also men have to put effort in adjusting the technique and being more precise, controlling not imprinting an unnecessary power.
As a result practicing together betters the Aikido of all.
